Former Indian head coach, and now a commentator, Ravi Shastri gave fans a laugh during Day 1 of the third Test between India and England at Lord’s.
While on-air with former England skipper Michael Atherton, the ex-India coach opened up about pacer Mohammed Siraj’s personality inside the dressing room,,and his answer caught many off guard.
Shastri calls Siraj a “joker”
Atherton asked Shastri if Siraj was a prankster or a calm character in private. Without hesitation, Shastri responded:
“Oh, he’s a joker.” But he quickly clarified that Siraj isn’t the one playing the pranks.
“Someone else keeps poking fun at him… and he falls for it,” said Shastri.
He also added that both Siraj and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant are natural entertainers who bring life to the dressing room.
Siraj’s DSP joke left everyone in splits
Shastri recalled how Siraj once handled jokes about his honorary DSP title with a hilarious comeback.
“There was a chuckle around the dressing room. Siraj had to say, ‘Ok, wait till you come to Hyderabad, I will sort you out,’” Shastri laughed.
Siraj was India’s standout performer in the second Test at Edgbaston, picking seven wickets to help India level the series 1-1 with a huge 336-run win. He is once again leading the attack at Lord’s alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep.
