IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill Reveals Why Jasprit Bumrah Isn’t Playing Edgbaston Test

Shubman Gill confirms Bumrah rested for Edgbaston Test; Kuldeep left out for batting depth. England bowl first

India is playing the second Test against England at Edgbaston. England is leading the five-match series 1-0. This is a must-win game for India to level the series.

Before the match, during the toss, India captain Shubman Gill gave an important update. He revealed why Jasprit Bumrah is not playing in the Edgbaston Test.

What Shubman Gill said at the toss:

“Would’ve bowled first as well. If there’s anything in the wicket, it’s in the first day. Three changes – Reddy, Washi and Akash Deep come in. No Bumrah. Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break and this is an important match for us. But the third Test being at Lord’s, we think there’ll be more in that pitch so we’ll use him there.”

Gill confirmed that Bumrah is not injured. He has been rested to manage his workload. India is looking ahead to the Lord’s Test, where they expect the pitch to suit Bumrah more.

Why Kuldeep Yadav was not picked?

Shubman Gill also spoke about the team combination and the decision to not include Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI.

Gill said:

“We were tempted to play Kuldeep but looking at the last match, our lower order didn’t do well, so decided to add some depth to the batting.”

The team wanted to include Kuldeep Yadav, but because the lower-order batting failed in the last match, the management decided to go with more batting depth instead.
