Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 20 runs in the 29th match of the 13th edition of the IPL. This is Chennai’s third win out of the 8 matches they played so far. With this, the team reached number six in the points table. Chennai has so far defeated Hyderabad for the 10th time in 14 matches.
In the match played in Dubai, Chennai won the toss and gave a target of 168 runs while batting first. In response, Hyderabad was able to score 147 runs after losing 8 wickets. For SunRisers Hyderabad, Kane Williamson was the top scorer as he scored 57 runs off 39 balls with the help of 7 fours.
SunRisers Hyderabad started off poorly to chase the target as they had lost two wickets for just 27 runs. While SRH skipper David Warner (9 off 13 balls) failed to contribute for his side, Manish Pandey (4 off 3 balls) also didn’t impress much. Jonny Bairstow also could not do much and went back to pavilion after scoring 23 runs. Kane Williamson (57) solely led the innings with a partnership of 32 with Bairstow and then 40 with Priyam Garg.
Dwayne Bravo and Karn Sharma took 2–2 wickets each for Chennai Super Kings. Simultaneously Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur got 1-1 wickets each.
Here is David Warner’s Reaction
“The wicket was on the slower side, I think we needed an extra batter. We tried to take it deep. You got one big boundary, so it’s not easy. We have to go back to the drawing board and work on a few areas,” said David Warner in the post-match conference.
Warner mentioned that any target more than 160 is always difficult to chase. He also added that having 6-7 bowlers in the team is really helpful. Further, he said that it is really difficult to play against bowlers who can swing the ball.
“I thought 160 was the right total to go after, but anything above that was always going to be difficult. Having 6-7 bowlers in the team helps. It’s difficult to play against bowlers who can swing the ball. There’s always a challenge in the powerplay, but you have to take on the bowlers,” said SRH skipper David Warner.
“We need to monitor the wickets in the upcoming games and select the team accordingly. I think with our team and the depth that we have, we’re always going to be one short either way.
“Things (in the points table) are always congested in the middle. You got to beat the best teams, to make it to the top. We’ll be facing the top teams in the next few days, so I’m up for the challenge and so are the other guys,” he added.
