‘Naseem Shah is a better bowler than Jasprit Bumrah’ – Ihsanullah
Ihsanullah made a debatable statement regarding India's fast bowling spearhead.
Pakistan’s fast bowler Ihsanullah recently sparked controversy by comparing Naseem Shah with India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. In a bold statement, the young Pakistan pacer stated that Naseem Shah is a better bowler than Indian fast bowling spearhead.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Impact Across Formats
Since debuting for India in 2016, Jasprit Bumrah has become one of the most reliable players in all formats. He has repeatedly delivered when the odds were stacked against India, clinching victory from near-defeat.
The lethal right-arm quick has always delivered for India in marquee events. In the most recent ones, he impressed everyone in the ODI World Cup 2023 and stole the spotlight by winning Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by USA and the Caribbean.
Naseem Shah’s Rise in Pakistan Cricket
Meanwhile, Naseem Shah has emerged as a promising fast bowler from Pakistan’s renowned fast-bowling talent pool. In his brief career so far, he has shown immense potential. However, lately he has failed to perform to his potential in the red-ball cricket and was also dropped from the Pakistan squad.
However, despite Naseem Shah’s relatively shorter career, Ihsanullah believes the young pacer matches up well against Bumrah. Speaking on a podcast, he confidently remarked:
“If I compare Bumrah, Naseem Shah is a better bowler.”
When the host pointed out Bumrah’s superior record, Ihsanullah defended his statement, suggesting that Naseem’s potential shouldn’t be dismissed just because of one season.
“Naseem Shah was also performing like this in the 2021 (2022) World Cup,” he added.
Ihsanullah also pointed out the difference in pitch conditions, arguing that Indian bowlers benefit more from favorable surfaces compared to Pakistani pacers, which influences their performances
