Every Captain Wants Bowler Like Rashid Khan: Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar has praised Sunrisers Hyderabad's Afghan spin bowler Rashid Khan, saying that he is the bowler whom every team captain would like to have in his team.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, under the captaincy of David Warner, defeated Kings XI Punjab on Thursday in a one sided match by 69 runs. Batting first, Warner and opener Jonny Bairstow (97) stitched a whopping 160-run-stand for the first wicket which laid the foundation for a big total on board.
In reply, Kings XI Punjab managed to score 132 runs despite a 77-run knock by Nicholas Puran and lost the match. In this match, spinner Rashid Khan bowled amazing and took three wickets for 12 runs. His sensational performance made everyone crazy. Now, former Indian great batsman Sunil Gavaskar has also heaped praises on him.
Former Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has praised Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Afghan spin bowler Rashid Khan, saying that he is the bowler whom every team captain would like to have in his team. Rashid took three wickets while performing brilliantly against Kings XI Punjab. He took the wickets of Nicholas Pooran (77), Simran Singh (11) and Mandeep Singh (6). Rashid gave 12 runs in four overs and threw a maiden over too.
“You ask all the captains of the franchises, which is the one bowler that they want in their team, I am pretty certain every one of them will say ‘give me Rashid’. I am pretty certain. There might be the odd bowler who might get offended but look at the way he goes about his job,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports in a post-match show.
“He picks up wickets, creates dot balls. Look at the economy – 3 for 12 in 4 overs. Leg-spinners generally bowls a full toss, a short ball. He hardly ever does it. He is on the target every single time, he has got a nice, well-disguised googly which comes off the back of the hand. A lot of batsmen find it difficult to pick. That kind of bowling, that kind of control, any captain will say ‘give me that bowler,” he added.
We have the best bowling combination: Rashid Khan
“That’s what happens when you have a good total on the board, the batsmen have to go after you. But you also have to bowl your best deliveries and that’s what I was trying to do. It is a big loss for us to lose Mitch Marsh and Bhuvi. As a team, we still have a good combination and the youngsters are taking responsibility,” said SRH spinner Rashid Khan after his team’s 69-run win over KXIP
SunRisers Hyderabad would like to maintain their winning run when they will face Rajasthan Royals at the same ground on Sunday afternoon (October 11).
