Wasim Jaffer Urges Fans to Support Virat Kohli During Rough Patch in T20 World Cup 2024
Wasim Jaffer has backed Virat Kohli to come good in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has backed Virat Kohli and urged the fans not to write off the star batter. Kohli has managed only five runs in three innings during the recently concluded New York leg of the T20 World Cup 2024.
This comes as a surprise considering Kohli’s dominant IPL 2024 performance, where he topped the run-scoring charts with a staggering 741 runs as an opener for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
However, the challenging pitches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium seem to have posed a different challenge in the World Cup. Kohli’s scores in the first three Group A matches read 1, 4, and 0.
Jaffer, in a YouTube video, expressed his confidence in Kohli’s ability to bounce back.
“Rohit [Sharma] and Virat have been playing on difficult pitches in New York, which is why they aren’t among the leading run-scorers. But don’t underestimate Virat Kohli. When the tournament reaches the crucial stages, he will come good and showcase his true potential. In fact, I even picked him as the highest run-scorer for the tournament, and I’m sticking to that prediction.”
Wasim Jaffer also addressed the debate surrounding Virat Kohli‘s batting position. With Rishabh Pant thriving at number three, Jaffer believes Kohli should continue opening.
“There’s no need for Virat to shift back to number three. Rishabh Pant is doing exceptionally well there, and having a left-right opening combination is ideal. While we have someone like Jaiswal, it disrupts that balance.”
Virat Kohli’s return to form will be crucial for India’s chances in the T20 World Cup. With Jaffer’s backing and Kohli’s past records, fans can still hope to see the star batter back in his fiery form come the knockout stages.
