Wasim Akram Begs PCB to Retain Gary Kirsten as Head Coach After T20 World Cup 2024

Gary Kristen was appointed as the head coach of Pakistan white-ball cricket team before T20 World Cup 2024.

Former Pakistan fast bowler and legend Wasim Akram has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to retain head coach Gary Kirsten for at least two years, even if the team’s performance is not consistently strong.

Pakistan recently overhauled their coaching staff as the national team struggled to win matches across formats in international cricket. They appointed Kirsten and Jason Gillespie as heads of the coaching department for white-ball formats and Test cricket, respectively.

Kirsten, who won the 2011 World Cup with the Indian team as head coach, joined the Men in Green before the four-match T20I series against England. However, he didn’t receive a warm welcome as Pakistan lost the series and are now on the brink of elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024.

Wasim Akram believes that Gary Kirsten is the right person to lead the Men in Green.

“Gary Kirsten should be given two years. He is the right person to take Pakistan cricket forward. Gary has been successful with other teams and is a cool and calm guy,” Akram said on Star Sports.

“Pakistan shouldn’t remove him after a few series if the team fails to win consistently. He should occasionally visit the National Cricket Academy to boost the confidence of young players.”

Pakistan‘s next match is scheduled against Ireland in Florida. However, it looks like the match will be washed out due to a rainstorm that has persisted for several days. If the match is cancelled, the USA will directly qualify for the Super Eight.
