“Never Seen Such Destruction By a Keeper Since Gilly”: Kris Srikkanth Lauds Rishabh Pant’s Skills

Former India batsman Kris Srikkanth praised Rishabh Pant for his knock and said that he hadn’t seen such hitting by a wicketkeeper since Adam Gilchrist played.

India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant’s brilliant century on Friday put the hosts 89 runs ahead of England and former India batsman Kris Srikkanth said that he hadn’t seen such hitting by a wicketkeeper since Adam Gilchrist played.

Rishabh Pant recorded his first Test hundred on home soil at the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. Pant battered the England bowlers on the second day of the 4th Test as he scored 101 runs off just 118 deliveries.

“What a terrific century by @RishabhPant17 when Team India needed it the most! Never seen such destruction by a keeper since Gilly #ENGvIND #pant #TeamIndia,” Kris Srikkanth tweeted.

India was reeling at 80 for 4 when Pant came out to bat and joined Rohit Sharma in the middle. With the team firmly on the backfoot, Pant decided against playing in his usual aggressive manner. He stitched together key partnerships with Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Washington Sundar to first get the team past 205, and then to get them 54 runs ahead by the time he departed for 101. The England bowlers, however, kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals and reduced India to 146 for 6.

Pant, on Friday was batting on 94 when he went down on one knee to Joe Root’s spin and hit it over square leg for a six.

“It has come at such a crucial time for India. You asked me a question about what you think he is going to do and I said that he will get to his hundred with a six, and that’s exactly what he has done. This is bold India, this is India that believes in itself.

“This is the India that we all love, we all love. Look at that, look at the way he has given joy to those at the ground, to the millions watching this on television. Oh, this is amazing. This is so wonderful,” said Sunil Gavaskar while doing commentary on Star Sports.
