Notably, Rohit Sharma, who was visibly emotional and teary-eyed after the final loss to Australia has broken his silence for the first time, openly addressing Team India’s World Cup journey.
Here’s what Rohit Sharma said in a conversation with Team45Ro:
“If you look at the other side of it, I am really proud of the team as well. Because how we played was simply outstanding. You don’t get to perform like that in every World Cup.”
“I am pretty sure that how we played up until that final, it would have given people a lot of joy, a lot of pride watching the team play.”
Rohit Sharma, along with his family, went on a Europe vacation after the heartbreaking defeat against Australia in the World Cup final. Speaking on that, the Indian captain said:
“After that final, it was very hard to get back and start moving on which is why I decided that I need to go somewhere and just get my mind out of this. But then wherever I was, I realised that people were coming up to me and there they were appreciating everyone’s effort, how well we played.”
‘I Feel For All Of Them’ – Rohit Sharma On Indian Fans
Rohit Sharma, who ended the World Cup 2023 as the second highest run-scorer of the tournament with 597 runs from 11 innings, opened up about the profound emotions of fans and their dedicated support that remained a driving force for the team throughout the campaign.
“I feel for all of them. They all, along with us, were dreaming of lifting that World Cup. Everywhere we went during the entire World Cup campaign, there was so much support from everyone who came to the stadium firstly and the people who are watching it from home as well. I want to appreciate what people have done for us in that one and half month period.”
“Along with them, I was healing as well. I felt, okay these are the kind of things you want to hear. And people understand what the player must be going through and when they know these kinds of things and not to bring out that frustration, that anger, it means a lot to us. It gives a motivation to get back and start working again and look for another ultimate prize.”
Rohit Sharma’s next appearance, which will be his first after World Cup 2023, will be in the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa.
