Rangpur Riders notched up their maiden victory in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League with a four-wicket win against Sylhet Strikers, thanks to Babar Azam’s sensational fifty at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Babar, having arrived in Dhaka on Monday night, wasted no time making an impact, smashing an unbeaten 56 off 49 balls. Azmatuallah Omarzai also played a key role, scoring 47 not out off 35 balls as Riders chased down the target in 18.2 overs.
The duo teamed up when Sylhet sent shockwaves through Rangpur’s innings, leaving them at 39-6. Despite the collapse, their unbroken stand of 86 runs ensured a successful run chase.
As the match kicked off, Rangpur Riders’ captain won the toss, and opted to bowl first. In a playful move during the playing 11 announcement, Captain Nurul Hasan brought in Babar Azam, affectionately calling him ‘King Babar,’ and the video’s now making waves on social media.
Babar Azam, the former captain of Pakistan, enjoys the nickname ‘King Babar’ from his fans and teammates in Pakistan and is presently hailed as one of the batting greats in the country.
