After a long break from international cricket, the South African national cricket team hosts England in a limited-overs series this month. The South African team has announced a 24-man squad for the ODI and T20 series against England.
Quinton De Kock, who lead the Proteas to a 3-0 whitewash against Australia in their ODI series, will captain the side. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is back in the team. At the same time, a medium-pace bowler, Glenton Stuurman got a place in the team for the first time.
Former South Africa captain and now CSA Director of Cricket, Graeme Smith was delighted with the return of international cricket in the country.
“I’m extremely proud of the hard work that the CSA team has put into ensuring the Proteas men return to international cricket. It’s been a long winter and it’s really pleasing that we finally have an imminent international tour on our shores to look forward to.
“This is an important season for the team, with an ICC T20 World Cup coming up late next year in India. I’m sure that the T20 series, in particular, is going to boast some explosive performances for cricket fans to enjoy at home. An ODI series against the reigning World Champions will always bring a level of excitement of its own. I’m looking forward to an exciting return to international cricket for our Proteas,” Smith said.
This is the first international series of South Africa since the beginning of the Corona era. Earlier this year, in March, the South African team visited India but the series was cancelled because of Covid-19 pandemic. In this series, Rabada was not included in the team due to groin injury.
Kagiso Rabada is currently playing in the IPL for Delhi Capitals team is in excellent form. He has taken 25 wickets in the tournament so far.
