The stylish Reeza Hendricks launched an assault on the Indian bowlers from the word-go for South Africa’s run chase in the second T20I. The right hander hammered 49 runs off just 27 deliveries with the help of 8 boundaries and a towering six.
Hendricks and Matthew Breetzke orchestrated a potent 42-run opening stand, igniting the 152-run chase (DLS adjusted) with a flourish. Hendricks’ innings was characterized by his adept display of elegant shots, including some delightful cover drives.
Reeza Hendricks’ graceful cover drives caught the attention of former South African pacer Dale Steyn, who couldn’t help but draw a comparison, highlighting the similarity with Virat Kohli, known for his mastery in the art of cover drives.
On Star Sports, as reported by CricToday, Dale Steyn said:
“Reeza’s cover drives are right up there with Virat Kohli. He has been sensational in the shortest format of the game. I was disappointed when he couldn’t make it to the ODI squad for the ICC World Cup in India.”
Steyn further expressed confidence in Hendricks finding a buyer in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction, set to take place in Dubai on December 19:
“He has a chance of getting success in the Indian Premier League. Reeza played a good knock for Sunrisers in one of the semi-finals of a T20 tournament.”
Reeza Hendricks has entered the IPL 2024 auction with a base price of INR 50 lakh.
