After a break of a week, Team India will begin its home season in 2023 and will host Sri Lanka in 3 T20Is and as many ODIs, starting January 3 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

India won their most recent T20I series against New Zealand, where Hardik Pandya led the team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma. Senior players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were also given rest during the series.

The Men in Blue recently lost the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. They were outplayed by the Litton Das-led side in the first two ODIs, while they won the third one and avoided a whitewash.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be playing its first international T20I series after T20 World Cup 2022. Given, it will be the first assignment of the New Year for both teams, they would want to start off with a win.

Hardik Pandya has been appointed the captain of the T20I team taking on Sri Lanka with Suryakumar as his deputy. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul have not been picked in the T20I side. Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar, on the back of their remarkable outing in IPL 2022, earned call-ups for India’s T20 squad.

Rohit Sharma will return to lead the Indian side in the ODI series with Hardik Pandya as his deputy. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul also return to the team. Notably, Rishabh Pant hasn’t been named in both ODI and T20I.
