Former England spinner Graeme Swann was shocked on KXIP’s decision of choosing Glenn Maxwell again and again despite his poor performance in the IPL-2020. His statement came after Maxwell was selected in the playing XI of Kings XI Punjab against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.
Kings XI Punjab spent INR 10.75 to bought Glenn Maxwell in the IPL 2020. While Delhi Capitals spent INR 9 crore in the IPL 2018. But his form in the IPL in the last few seasons is questionable as he didn’t perform as expected. In the ongoing season of the IPL, a lot was expected from Glenn Maxwell as he was in good form while playing for Australia in their final tour game against England. But in the last few matches he played for Kings XI Punjab, he didn’t meet the expectations of his fans and scored- 13,11,11 and 7 runs. Despite this, his team is continuously believing in him and giving him chances.
“I’m flabbergasted that Maxwell has retained his place,”
Swann said on Star Sports after KXIP captain KL Rahul informed at the toss that there was only change in that side – Chris Jordan in place of Sheldon Cottrell.
“Maxwell’s been paid a lot of money and at the moment he’s not quite giving the returns. He’s a quality player, he scored runs for Australia in England, he’s just got to take more responsibility,” Swann added.
Maxwell came to bat against Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi after his team almost collapsed. KXIP needed 14 runs off the last over of Sunil Narine but Maxwell again failed to impress his side and fans. The Australian batsman tried to hit the ball for six but it didn’t go as planned and the ball went for four and they lost the match by 2 runs.
